I competed throughout middle and high school from California and then Idaho when my family moved there. The experience was truly remarkable. I performed my monologues everywhere from the National Archives in Washington, DC to local historical societies and soroptimist groups. I placed second and third at the National competition and it was truly a defining period in my life. Now I am a maritime archaeologist and advocate for public archaeology in small communities. National History Days taught me the interdisicplinary, connected nature of history. Good luck and congratulations to all the participants! It’s nice to see this initiative continue to grow.
