Duties: The Department of Anthropology at the University of South Florida seeks a Training Support Specialist for the Central Regional Center (CRC) of the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN).
The position is full-time with benefits, and will be physically located at the offices of the Crystal River Preserve State Park in Crystal River, Florida. The USF CRC provides a leadership role in archaeological education and preservation efforts throughout the nine county service area centered in the Citrus County area.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to maintain and expand on the existing Educational Outreach Programs and Heritage Management goals. The Training Support Specialist will be directly responsible for CRC’s K-12 outreach efforts and will work extensively with teachers, student and the public covering a nine county region. Assist in managing monthly and annual budget reports, maintain the Center’s schedule, work directly with the public, organize and distribute materials on Florida Archaeology and the Center’s activities.
Must be able to work well independently on special projects and with the Director, USF Graduate Students, and Volunteers involving the Center’s programs. Will be responsible for maintaining the Center’s webpage. Routine travel within a nine county region is required (limited overnight travel).
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field along with two years work experience involving educational outreach. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree along with three or more years works experience in education, public outreach and/or historic preservation along with experience and training in Web page design/maintenance. Experience working with K-12 students and volunteers a plus. Demonstrated experience with Dreamweaver, and Microsoft Publisher is desired. Outreach Coordinator

Invites applications for a full-time staff position for the Northeast Regional Center of the Florida Public Archaeology Network to begin Summer 2008. For program information: www.flpublicarchaeology.org
Primary responsibilities include: assisting the Public Archaeologist/Director and management of outreach programs, the establishment of collborative relationships between the Center and the public in northeast Florida (local an county governments, students, volunteers, civic groups), and maintaining outreach tools—such ater’s website, mailing list, and quarterly newsletter. Duties ude representing the Center ind frequent travel within seven northeast Florida counties with occasional overnight-travel outside the region. The position is a professional staff position and will not lead to a tenure-track position.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or related field with three years or more of work experience, a master’s degree preferred. Interest or experience in public archaeology, education, interpretation, or public relations/communications desirable. Candidate must: communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; have courteous manner in dealing with the public; work collaboratively with a diverse group of people; work without close supervision with the ability to make proper independent decisions; handle details and be multi-task oriented; access multi-storied buildings, multiple-level staircases, and outdoor sites; have the ability to carry up to 25 lbs of equipment/materials necessary for setting up information booths and field projects; and possess a valid driver’s license.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a range of $32,000-$40,000. The position is full-time with benefits.
