Spike on which the gun carriage rotatedThis heavy iron spike was driven into a heavy timber that was part of the foundation for the floor in the gun emplacement. The front of the gun carriage fit over this pin, and could then be rotated by moving the rear of the carriage which rested on small wheels that moved along a semi-circular iron or wooden rail. This was exposed during the archaeological excavation of this site by the University of West Florida in the summer of 2010. (Photo by William Lees, FPAN, July 2010)
