Key West (3)

Key West remained in United States control throughout the Civil War.  The East Gulf Blockading Squadron was headquartered here, and a number of sailors and soldiers were stationed here.  Key West has two monuments, including the oldest Civil War monument in the state, that speak very profoundly to the service of the Union forces--none were stationed any further to the south.  A third monument is an arch dedicated to the Confederacy.
