Lake City (3)

Lake City is the seat of Columbia County and in 1864 was the largest community in the vicinity of the Battle of Olustee (Ocean Pond), which occurred on February 20, 1864.   Today the town is the center of annual commemorative activities associated with this Confederate victory, and hosts an impressive monuement to the battle in its downtown square, a large soldiers plot of battle dead and a monument in Oaklawn Cemetery, and a monument to the "Last Confederate war widow of Florida," also in Oaklawn Cemetery.
