Panama City (2)

What is today Panama City was in the center of a thriving manufacturing industry that provided salt made from sea water to the Confederacy during the Civil War.  There were literally hundreds of salt works along the bays in this part of Florida, which were constantly being attacked by gunboats and landing parties from the US Blockading squadron.  Today there are two monuments commemorating this industry, both featuring historic cast iron kettles said to have been used during this short-lived but essential industry.
