Pensacola (2)

At the onset of the Civil War, Florida state militia and later Confederate forces occupied Forts Barrancas and McRee but U.S. troops retained control of Fort Pickens throughout the war.  In 1862, U.S. troops occupied the town and other forts, and built additonal defensive works around the town.

Pensacola abounds with resources related to the Civil War.  Included are two monuments one of which is among the most impressive in the state.  Other resources can be found in the Civic and Civilian and Military sections of Destination: Civil War.
