Fort Barrancas
Gulf Islands National Seashore
Naval Air Station Pensacola
Fort Barrancas is a gem of the National Park Service's Gulf Islands National Seashore, and the visitor center holds a small but well done exhibit on the Civil War. This exhibit discusses the tensions in Pensacola between Florida State Militia and a small U.S. garrison at Fort Pickens, which almost caused the spark that started the Civil War, as well as other topics including the bombardment of Fort Pickens, the Civil War at Fort Barrancas, U.S. Colored Troops, and local wartime stories from the area. Fort Barrancas is located within Naval Air Station Pensacola.
Open March through October from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM; November through February 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM; Tours of fort given daily at 2:00 PM. Admission is free.
