Archaeological Resources of Biscayne National Park

Time: 7:00 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: Deering Estate Auditorium, 16701 S.W. 72nd Ave., Miami

Description: Biscayne National Park, practically in our own backyard, has a myriad of archaeological resources. Come hear about prehistoric and protohistoric sites on the islands as well as a little about the homesteader site, and the shipwrecks. The shipwreck portion will include information about last summer’s project on the English China shipwreck and the Heritage Trail, one of the richest collections of shipwrecks in the country. At least fifty shipwrecks from Spanish gold fleets and British warships rest in the 180,000 acre submerged park. The underwater Heritage Trail is due to fully open within a week of this presentation.
Charles Lawson, National Park Services archaeologist and Cultural Resource manager at Biscayne National Park is our presenter. Prior to working at this park, he worked for 10 years at the Southeast Archaeological Center.
