“Why Most of What We Think We Know About Archaeology Is Wrong, and WTime: 7:00 pm til 8:00 pm Location: West Palm Beach Public Library, 411 Clematis Street 3rd Floor in the Clematis Room Description: The Palm Beach County Archaeological Society invites you to attend a lecture entitled “Why Most of What We Think We Know About Archaeology Is Wrong, and What We Should Be Doing Instead” By Dr. Clifford Brown. Dr. Brown will discuss the application to archaeology of John Ioannidis’s famous paper “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False”. He will then discuss the unintended consequences of confirmatory hypothesis testing research designs in archaeology and explain why we should focus our efforts instead, on hypothesis-generating research. He will conclude with an unusual example. FPAN is posting this event as a courtesy, we will neither be hosting nor attending this event. |

The Florida Public Archaeology Network is dedicated to the protection of cultural resources, both on land and underwater, and to involving the public in the study of their past. Regional centers around Florida serve as clearinghouses for information, institutions for learning and training, and headquarters for public participation in archaeology.
