Everglades Pythons: The Second Decade

Time: 7:00 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: Deering Estate Auditorium, 16701 S.W. 72nd Ave., Miami

Description: The Archaeological Society
of Southern Florida
presents Everglades pythons: The second Decade. Now in its second decade, the invasion continues to yield troubling questions. How far north might the Burmese python venture from the Everglades wilderness? What might their presence mean for the countless birds and mammals--some of them endangered--with which south Florida has become synonymous? And does history seem poised to repeat itself as new, large reptiles are discovered to be thriving in the area's favorable climate? Larry Perez, author of Snake in the Grass: An Everglades Invasion, shares how this story has unfolded before his eyes, and provides new insight into how it challenges our understanding of wilderness and man's place within it.
