Caladesi MemoriesTime: 2:00 pm til 3:30 pm Location: Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33702 Description: Caladesi Memories: Join us for a true island story about Myrtle Scharrer Betz (1895-1992) and her experience of growing up on her family’s 156 acre homestead on Caladesi Island. “Told with compelling honesty and humanity, this tale by the only child ever born on Caladesi Island captures the natural wonders, discomforts, challenges, and joys of pioneer life on a Florida West Coast barrier island.” The home on Caladesi was an early tourist destination; hundreds of photos document the steady stream of visitors who arrived by boat to visit and to enjoy a guided tour of island landmarks. Myrtle’s granddaughter, Terry Fortner, will present Caladesi Memories and a new cookbook of her grandmother’s receipes. 2 to 3:30 pm. Free; advance registration required.
