The shipwreck San Pablo, known locally as the Russian Freighter, is one of the northern Gulf Coast’s best recreational diving spots. Despite its peaceful existence today as home to a wide variety of marine life, San Pablo’s sinking was part of a plot by the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS) to deal a crippling blow to the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. This presentation explores San Pablo’s fascinating history and its new life as a staple of the Florida Panhandle Shipwreck Trail.
